Excited Boy 2

Michelle April 25th, 2009

Gavin woke up before the train got here. And, when it showed up, he was excited! The color, the sound, the people… everything. It pulled up right to where we were standing, the conductor got out and yelled ‘All Aboard’, and they kept tooting the horn. He was stoked! We climbed right up and found our seats in the air conditioned car. We were later told the history of the train car, it was the first enclosed train car with air conditioning. My favorite type of train car… the ones with A/C. They take the train down the middle of the town (Noblesville). Literally, down the middle of the main road. There were cars on both sides of us and Gavin was waving to them as if he were in a parade. They were waving back… everyone had big smiles. It was funny to me that people were taking pictures, laughing, and waving… they see this regularly in Noblesville. But, I thought, I like to watch the train and if someone is waving, so am I. I feel like there is something happy about a train.

The train ride was rather slow. It was the first ride of the season and they want to be sure they do not have any big debris on the track. Thinking about it now, I would have thought they would have made sure to check the track before the first ride… Safety First! Everything was fine. We road the train to Atlanta, Indiana. A small, cute town with a gazebo, post office, fire station, and mercantile. That was it. They had a few sandwich options to grab lunch, bake sale going on outside, and a couple of old guys strumming some tunes on guitars. We took a picture of the post office for my mom (she works for the USPS and I encourage her to collect PO pics), sat in the gazebo and ate lunch, and walked around the fire station. Then, it was time to board.

The ride there and back was about 3 hours. We must have been wearing signs on our head that said ‘Talk to us’. The volunteers huddled around us sharing train info there and back. It was very informative. Scott and the conductor had a couple of very interesting conversations. Scott knows quite a bit about trains from Don, a family member. Don let Scott play in the engine of this train when he was 5… 28 years later, Scott is playing in the engine with Gavin.

Gavin had a GREAT time and talks about his train ride a lot. We will be going again.

Excited Boy!

Michelle April 25th, 2009

We are riding a train today! Gavin has been excited for weeks. I cut out a picture of a train and put in on the calendar. So, he knew that after soccer, we were heading for the train. He passed out 30 minutes before boarding. I think he will wake up when the train gets here.

More lights…

Michelle April 21st, 2009

Gavin woke up this morning and told Scott that he needed more lights in his room… to keep the monsters away.

Gavin comments….

Michelle April 6th, 2009

*Talking about Pappaw Bill and Grandma Sue… “They live far away? I can not get close to them?” (Aaawww… what do you say?)

*I told Gavin to go wash his hands before dinner, he ran around the corner, looked at me, and said “What are we eating for dinner, Mom?” (I told him what we were having for dinner and every ingredient in it. He listened and then went to wash his hands.)

*Scott asked him what a LionCar sounds like… RooooaaaarrBrrrrroomm (I thought he would tell him that a LionCar was silly. No, he made the noises.)

*Scott and Gavin had taken Bingo outside and I heard a banging on the front door. It was Gavin, “Mom, your flowers are blooming!” (Every day, I talk about my flowers blooming (the tulips). He must have just put the word bloom together with flower. The pansies have had flowers for weeks, but I am waiting for the tulips to bloom.)

*When he gets his diaper changed… “Mom, come look at my cute butt!” or “Mom, come look at my legs!”. (He only does this at home when we are changing him on the couch - Weird.)

Pirates! Arrr!

This is what we do at Mommy Daycare. What do you get to do at work?

Summer Cut

Michelle March 23rd, 2009

Gavin’s hair grows so fast! He had a hair cut at the end of February (exactly four weeks ago) and we were back for another today. I should have taken him last weekend, but I thought it was just too soon.

Spring Has Sprung

Michelle March 21st, 2009

Last Sunday, we spent some quality time working around the house. Scott finished a shelf organizer for the garage. We gathered up LOTS of trash and boxes from the garage. Just clearing out the trash and a little reorg made the garage looks much better. I replaced all the coconut liners in my hanging baskets (that was no fun) and planted some pansies. We cleaned out the gutters, mowed the lawn, and cleared out the garden area. Scott had the luxurious job of pooper-scoopering the front yard.
Our front yard looks like Spring. YEAH!

Membership Has Its Priveleges - Thanks Dad!

Michelle March 19th, 2009

We took Gavin to the Children’s Museum and the Zoo (in the same day). The Lego exhibit had just opened at the Musuem and it was VERY crowded. Gavin seemed to be oblivious that the items were made out of Lego’s. I think the scale was too much for him. He is loving the Dinosaur exhibit. He talks about Frannie, the dinosaur, often.
Since the musuem was so crowded, we headed over to the zoo to see the penguins. It has been wonderful to just stop in, spend an hour, and leave… no money spent! The walrus’ were very active that day. The one in the picture was playing peek-a-boo with Gavin. It was as cute as a giant walrus gets.
The memberships are wonderful! We have gotten tons of use out of both of them. My dad renews mine… one for my birthday and the other for Christmas. We added Eagle Creek Park to our membership list this year. This way we can take Bingo with us on some visits.

Mommy Daycare Teaches Science Class

Michelle March 18th, 2009

I had the opportunity to teach science today. For those of you who know me, this was quite a huge step. Gavin and I talked about ants… what they eat, where they live, and how much they can carry. Gavin discovered several ants by the outside wall of our office. Then, I noticed a small item moving slowly across the floor. This ant provided lots of entertainment over the next hour or so. Gavin would run over to check on his progress and then run back to what he was doing. He was intrigued by the ants all day… even after I ran the vacuum. =)

Bath Time

Michelle March 17th, 2009

Gavin loves bath time! Not sure why… the colored water (yellow this day), wrinkly fingers and toes, or Daddy’s crazy hair styles.

Mommy Daycare

Michelle March 15th, 2009

This was Gavin’s second week with me at work. He has done very well. I have a good sized office with my desk at one end and Gavin’s things at the other. It breaks up my day… get to work, snack time, lunch time, nap time, snack time, and home. He has a little more energy when he gets home each night, but seems to be having fun.
